Benches

When one thinks of a bench, a traditional park bench often comes to mind. It's probably the green, wooden kind with the horizontal slats. While the park bench is a beautiful and popular style used in neighborhoods across the globe, there are many more varieties of benches available in today's market. Benches are used in many backyards or gardens—sometimes purely for decoration. Indoor benches have gained in popularity over the last several years. Gardeners are wondering how they ever lived without potting benches—an innovative way to decorate and organize gardening tools. We'll briefly discuss some of the types of benches available. We'll also look at some styles and commonly used materials. Today's bench has evolved into much more than a recreational seat.

Styles
As we mentioned, there are many styles of benches. A backless bench makes a nice addition to the patio or deck. They're great for sitting or a nice place for potted plants. Potting benches are the ultimate storage unit. They're the perfect place to pot plants and store all of the gardening accessories. Many people use a potting bench for entertaining. They've got several drawers and plenty of table space for preparing food and drinks.

The indoor bench looks fabulous in an entryway or bedroom. It doesn't necessarily need to be functional, it looks beautiful as a decorative piece. Some indoor benches feature a tall back with a mirror and hooks for hanging coats and hats. Many of them also have storage inside the bench.

Materials
Wood is definitely the most popular material used in bench making. Commonly used woods include Cedar, Cypress, Pine and Teak. Most wood benches are easy to maintain. For example, Cypress is known for its durability and has natural oils that aid in the resistance of insects and rot. Another widely used material is recycled plastic. These benches are great because they are maintenance free! These come in a variety of colors and styles and are very durable. There are also benches made of metals including iron and aluminum.

This is just a brief introduction into the types of benches available today. It would be a good idea to check out all of the latest styles in benches. They're an attractive and functional way to decorate any indoor and outdoor environment.
